14-year-old Pavithra loves sprinting

After a glittering finish at the Real Sports Clubs' state level Athletics meet supported by Play Matches– winning a golden double in 100m and 200m, Pavithra.C is a delighted girl and her family too. Basking in one of the finest year, the sprinter made quite a run in the track and field in Pune nationals recently, securing another 100m gold.

Pavithra is currently studying 9th grade at Sivanthi Matriculation Higher Secondary school, Kundrathur, Chennai. Having found her passion for sports at the very young age, her mother also spotted her interest that prompted her to pursue athletics. The continuous exposure to competition coupled with her hard work ultimately propelled her to the national level and now she is indeed has made the headlines on the state level athletics circuit with her remarkable performance.

Fisto Sports caught up with Pavithra just after her golden run at the Nehru Park in the state level Athletics meet, so we talked about how she got into athletics, working hard and her interest and much more.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and how you got into athletics in first place and who introduced you into the sport?

I am from a middle class family and my mother spotted my interest in sports and introduced me into athletics.

Who is your biggest support when it comes to athletics?

My mother first and my coach Mr. Mohan Raj.

How do you handle missing out on activities with friends because of your athletic schedule?

Sometimes, it’s tough but I am trying to manage both by mingling with my friends whenever I find free time.

How does it feel to be winning two gold medals in the recently concluded State level Athletics meet organised by Real Sports Club? Very happy and proud.

How teachers/school staff are supportive towards your athletics career?

Both my school staff and teachers are co-operative and my P.T. master in my school encourages me to do well every time by providing me with additional training.

Other than athletics, what new sports would you like to try?

Tennis.

What do you feel are your main strength in athletics?

Well, my main strength is that I’m a good sprinter, but I’m also not afraid to try my luck in some breakaways if the right chance offers itself. I also  train with the guidance of experts and win more.

And what are some of your short term and long-term goals? (within the next year or so)

I felt pretty confident with the amount of training that my coach now and I have gone through the past month on training for this achievement, I wanted to make sure that I was able to come within reach of my goals as well as keeping myself safe. I always to do well and improve myself further and be on the winning side.

What have been your major highlights/achievements in athletics?

Winning gold medal in 100mtrs in the event held at Pune recently.

Off the track what are your hobbies and interests?

Watching programme in TV related to athletics.
