Amit Kumar, Puneri Paltan’s all-rounder, trained right from middle school in Sonipat, Haryana. He played Under 17 nationals when he was 15 years old representing Haryana and secured Gold. He was also awarded as the best defender.

Amit admits that though he has always been in touch with the sport ever since he started, it has never been as rigorous as it has been in Prokabaddi. ‘As a kid, Kabaddi always fascinated me and everybody in my village, used to play Kabaddi and that’s how I was introduced to the sport,’ he says Most of the team members are trained by the in-house veterans, with skills being passed on from one batch to another. When asked what motivated him to play the sport, he says, “the senior players inspired me to take up Kabaddi professionally.”

Amit’s breakthrough moment when Star Sports had trials for New Young Players and the best of the players were included in the Season 6 auction list of New Young Players, he was picked up by Puneri Paltan in the auctions. The 19-year-old believes that once the skill is acquired, it’s the moulding – the number of practice hours – that really makes or breaks the team. “I practice everyday 2 hours in the morning and in the evening. We have also had a fitness session with Puneri Paltan where we focused on strength and conditioning.“

On being asked which is more difficult – defending or ride, he nonchalantly replies, “Since I am an all-rounder, both is easy for me however it was difficult at the start when I started off with being an all-rounder”

The whole structure of Prokabaddi is such that it is an open ground, where teams with top-level players and all the paraphernalia participate. Nevertheless, he is undeterred by the pressure. ‘Trainers, stamina and technique are just one part of the game. It’s the level of dedication that, I believe, is unique about our team. We have some fresh energy to perform the best and be able to give fans the best of Kabaddi experience. Every team is strong and well-balanced, and one cannot consider any team weak.”

Amit also added that everyone including the team, coach and the fans has been cooperative and helpful, and that he is looking forward to winning the kabaddi crown this season.
