Indian Men's U-20 Volleyball team is back at the podium after bagging the silver medal at the Asian Men’s U20 Volleyball Championship.
India finished its campaign at the Asian Men’s U20 Volleyball Championship with a silver medal after losing 1-3 against Iran in the final in Riffa, Bahrain on Monday. The silver medal is the first for the Men in Blue since 2010, which ends a 12-year medal drought at the continental event.
India beat Thailand in the semifinals with a score of 3-1 ( 25-21, 23-25, 25-18, 25-17) to reach the final.
This was the second instance the two teams faced each other. India and Iran met during the pool stage where Iran piped India 3-0 (25-20, 25-10, 25-19).

The dramatic four-set win stretched the Iran’s invincibility in this topflight age group tournament to unchallenged seven times in history including two in succession. However, with two berths for the 2023 FIVB Volleyball Men’s U21 World Championship on offer, both Iran and India have secured their spots in the next year’s world meet.
Despite the loss, India also had something to be proud of as they advanced to the final showdown for the first time in 20 years. The Indians first reached the final in 1994 in Doha, Qatar, but returned with the silver medal, with Korea reigning supreme. The Indians made their mark to advance to the final again in 2002, but succumbed to 1-3 defeat to hosts Iran for the silver medal and since then India had never made it to the final.
Therefore, winning their third silver medal here was something incredible for India when considering the fact that a strong field of 17 teams participated in this championship to strive for their success.
With this win, Iran has seven golds in the tournament, the most golds won by any team. On the other hand, India had previously won two silver having lost once to South Korea and Iran in 1994 and 2002 respectively.
It wasn't to be for 🇮🇳 U-20 Volleyball Team at the final hurdle. 🙁

Korea clinched the bronze medal after thumping Thailand in straight sets (31-29, 25-16, 25-14). Thailand, bronze medallists in 2018, finished fourth.
