Indian shuttlers enjoyed a strong start on the first day of the Dubai Para Badminton International at the Shabab Al Ahli Club in the United Arab Emirates.

The third edition of the tournament is the first Badminton World Federation para badminton event for more than a year because of the coronavirus pandemic.

First round action took place in various categories for men and women in both singles and doubles disciplines.

One of the best contests on a busy day of action came in the women’s singles SL3 category, with Indian top seed Parul Parmar edging out compatriot Charanjeet Kaur 21-13, 19-21, 23-21 in Group A.

In Group B of the SL3 category, second seed Manasi Joshi beat Mandeep Kaur 21-17, 21-10.

 

 

In the SU5 discipline, third seed Palak Kohli of India beat compatriot Vaishali Patel 21-2, 21-6 in Group C.

In the SL3 category, fourth seed Umesh Vikram Kumar was surprisingly beaten 21-18, 17-21, 21-15 in an all Indian affair in Group D by Mohammad Arwaz Ansari.

The tournament, which has attracted 127 players from 29 countries, is scheduled to run until Sunday (April 4).
