A huge game for two of the Indian Premier League's top three sides who are both fighting their own individual battles.
The weekend is bracing up for another big match between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Both DC and KKR are following each other in the IPL 2020 points table at second and third spot respectively with 4 points each. DC is ranked slightly above KKR owing to its better Net Run Rate.
Both KKR and DC will aim at grabbing those crucial 2 points with a win. Each point matters as a couple of big victories and defeats at this stage could be a make or break factor for any teams in their race to play-offs.
Sharjah is a relatively smaller ground as compared to other venues in the UAE, so fans can expect a high-octane big-total match tonight.
Delhi Capitals (DC) – Team Analysis And Match Strategy
Delhi Capitals had produced consistent match-winning performances in their first two matches before succumbing to pressure against SRH. DC are a good team with well-known bowlers and batsmen in their squad.
Kagiso Rabada has been delivering one fiery spell after another. Once again, his four-over spell will be crucial to DC. Currently, the 25-year-old has seven wickets to his credit this season, and is closely following Mohammad Shami’s 8 wickets tally in IPL purple cap race.
Delhi bowlers are likely to go for an all-out attack against KKR’s Karthik, Russel and Morgan. Letting them settle on the field can be a warning bell for team Delhi. Russel can be extremely dangerous at a shorter ground like Sharjah. He can easily hit big sixes when such shots look almost impossible. The combination of Axar Patel, Amit Mishra, and Ashwin will be at the helm to contain KKR’s run-rate.
In an exclusive chat with Fistosports, V Yudheeswaran of Gurunanak College, Chennai, opined that DC are likely to win the match against KKR, and can go very far in the tournament too.
V Yudheeswaran felt that the small grounds will favor the likes of Shikhar & Prithvi Shaw. Also, DC’s middle order has strong hitters like Iyer, Pant, & Hetmeyer. Marcus Stoinis who's been in a decent hitting form can come to the party as well.
Rabada has been extremely tight in his bowling with the new ball and old ball as well. Nortje has been consistently hitting 140+kph & we know how effective Ishant can be with the new ball.
The experienced Mishra will know how to bowl on such small grounds. Axar Patel who hasn't given anything away so far in the tournament may chip in with a few wickets as well.
The left & right combination of DC can tackle Narine & Kuldeep quite well. KKR bowling lineup is relatively inexperienced barring Sunil Narine & Pat Cummins. Narine is also not in his best of form these days.
Overall, DC are far stronger than KKR. If DC bat well and successfully put a big total, then it will be extremely difficult for Team Kolkata to easily beat them. Delhi Capitals’ big hitters like Prithvi Shaw, Hetmyer, Iyer, Pant, and Marcus Stoinis can get plenty of runs at Sharjah. Once, well-set, they can take on KKR’s bowlers for a ride.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR): Team Analysis and Match Strategy

KKR will start afresh against Delhi Capitals. They got their lost confidence back after beating Rajasthan Royals in the last game. All eyes will be on the Indian troika of Shivam Mavi, Shubham Gill, and Nagarkoti when KKR will clash against Delhi Capitals.
Team Kolkata’s main strength lies in its batting. With the likes of Russel, Karthik, Narine and Morgan at the helm, they can literally chase down any total or create a formidable total, batting first.
However, Kolkata need to play as an integrated unit. There is no room for mediocrity against the in-form DC. They will have to perform to the best of their abilities in Sharjah.
We discussed KKR’s team strategy with Ashik Sony, ST. Thomas College, Thrissur (Kerala). He said that KKR Vs DC match is likely to be a very interesting one.
He further stated that KKR will have an edge against DC because the likes of Morgan and Mavi will exploit the opportunity well by adding plenty of runs for KKR.
Ultimately, Pat Cummins and Mavi’s performance will be key to KKR’s victory. If they fail, it will be difficult for Kolkata to beat Delhi.
West Indian all-rounder, Andre Russel, didn’t perform well for KKR at the last match. If he shines at Sharjah then nobody can stop Kolkata. Everyone knows how Russel is a clean hitter of the ball, and Sharjah’s smaller enclosure will only prompt him more to go for big shots. Contrarily, if he goes out early then DC can easily make a comeback to the game at any over.
With plenty of hitters in their star-studded middle order, including the likes of Eoin Morgan and Pat Cummins, KKR can easily get past 200+ score at Sharjah.
KKR need to bowl well. Apart from Kuldeep Yadav and Sunil Narine, KKR’s bowling unit, this season, is relatively new and inexperienced. But, who knows, KKR’s new bowlers might be representing India soon. They just need one match to perform – and maybe that match comes against Delhi in Sharjah!
Ashik Sony Match Prediction: Kolkata Knight Riders will win the match
Key Players to Watch Out For
Andre Russel (Kolkata Knight Riders)
The West-Indies all-rounder is one of the most dependable players for KKR. He has the power to go for big shots across the ground. What’s more astounding is Russel’s strike rate of 185. Currently, he’s just 65-run short of completing his 1500 IPL runs, which he is expected to get at this match. KKR now need to promote him up the order as he already showed his class in Dubai with three magnificent sixes against Royals.
Eoin Morgan (Kolkata Knight Riders)
Eoin Morgan is a limited-over specialist batsman with plenty of experience. He’s got dozens of innovative shots in his batting arsenal. He showed his outstanding batting skills at this IPL with 92 runs at an impressive average of 92. Eoin can complete his 1000-IPL run if he scores 54 against DC.
Rishabh Pant (Delhi Capitals)
Pant is in good form, but lagging in comparison to the likes of Samson, Saurabh Tiwary, Kishan and others. Pant, with 1832 runs, is ready for a big knock against Delhi. He needs to safely negotiate the first 10 balls before taking on KKR bowlers. Once well set, Rishabh Pant can be really dangerous for the opponent.
Prithvi Shaw (Delhi Capitals)
Prithvi Shaw hit a well-crafted 64-run knock against the mighty Chennai Super Kings. If all goes well, he’s likely to repeat another good performance against KKR. He’s bit shaky when it comes to swing and seams, but if he safely faces the first few balls then the sky is the limit for the 21-year-old.
Head-To-Head Battles – Kolkata Knight Riders Vs Delhi Capitals
DC and KKR have faced each other 23 times, with KKR retaining 13-10 lead over DC.
