
The College of Engineering Pune (COEP) sports fest ZEST’20 marks its 18th year with the theme of ‘EDIFY THE CORE’ kicks off later today with a bang.
Zest'20, the annual, national-level sports extravaganza conducted by the College of Engineering Pune (COEP). COEP was established in 1854 and is the third oldest college in Asia. Being the top engineering college in India is one of the most happening institute.
Considered the biggest college sports festival of the country, this year’s edition of the event has the participation of more than 2000 students from 28 different colleges and universities, who will compete in various events and categories, over 4 days.
The sports event is held each year keeping in view the philosophy of College of Engineering Pune “For the students, by the students" and to instill the spirit of sportsmanship and healthy competition among the students.
Started in 2002, Zest has grown exponentially. Hosting 21 different sports through 88 challenging events spread across 3 grounds in Pune, Zest is truly a coliseum for all sports. The event garner an annual footfall of 18,000 – 20,000 on the 4 days of the event conducted in the last week of January every year.
Being a completely student organized fest, Zest nurture the idea, "For the students, by the students", thereby trying to incorporate the best of ideas with every consecutive year. Zest is ranked 5th biggest sports fest in all over India, however, our goal has always been to serve better and try to make even the smallest difference to the world because in the end, "Great things are done by a series of small things brought together."
Zest not only gives a stage to foster talents, but also believes in expanding our realm in doing good to the society. The last year's initiative called, "Transcending Boundaries" aimed to promote Paralympic sports.
The event proud to have esteemed guests such as Sandeep Singh, Lalita Babar, Tejaswini Sawant, Rahi Sarobat to grace the inaugural ceremony, where they encouraged the youth of our nation to take up sports as a viable career and that no barrier should hold you down, commending our efforts for the same.
The special events for Zest'19 ranged from a Basketball Show match by the Paraplegic Rehabilitation Center (PRC) Army persons and a Bike Stunt Show by the BMX group, football freestyler, gymnastic performance and flagship events such as Marathon with almost 1500 participants, our first ever Cyclothon - "For a Better Tomorrow" with almost 500 participants, Corporate Badminton Tournament, Self Defense Workshops in 6 major cities of Maharashtra etc, to addition of events such as Fencing, Archery, Squash and a few more, we have tried to make the best fusion to reach out to the audience at every stage of life, i.e, a student or the working class or even the differently-abled.
