Tamil Nadu Triathlon Association (TTA) under the Aegis of Indian Triathlon Federation (ITF) kick started the three day CSS Multi-Sport ITF yesterday with race briefing, kit collection, course familiarisation, bike check and transition check in at the Centre for Sports Science (CSS), Sri Ramachandra University Campus, Porur. This event marks the first Qualification event for the 2022 Commonwealth Games and Asian Games.
The second day being the race day started with Sprint and Olympic Distance Triathlon under categories – Elite Men and Women, Master Male and Female and Junior Male and Female. Followed by Aquathlon in Elite, Master, Junior and Youth in both Male and Female categories in the afternoon. With 190 athletes participating, the multi-sport event saw athletes coming from various parts of the country.
Athletes with the best timing in the sprint distance, Olympic distance and Mixed team relay will be invited for the national camps & provisionally considered for selection of the Indian contingent for 2022 Commonwealth Games, Birmingham and 2022 Asian Games, China subject to performances and government of India approval.
Dr. K. Thiagarajan, Centre for Sports Science flagged off the event at 0700hrs. Vice Chancellor Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research Dr. PV Vijayaraghavan gave away the prizes to the medal winners.
President Tamil Nadu Triathlon Association, Mr. N. Ramachandran, said, "We are glad to host this three day CSS Multi-Sport ITF event and witness athletes actively participating in the event. I wish to thank the CSS profusely for their undivided support and we are confident that this event will help athletes to get back to the competitive spirit for upcoming events ahead of Commonwealth Games and Asian Games 2022."
