Track & field athletes, shuttlers, swimmers, powerlifters shine brighter, India fetch 41 medals at Asian Youth Para Games

Indian para athletes put in a clincical performance to secure a glittering 42 medals, including 12 gold, 16 silver, and 13 bronze at the 2021 Asian Youth Para Games in Bahrain.

Asian Youth Para Games started in 2009 at Tokyo. It’s held in every four years. 2013 was held at Kuala Lumpur, 2017 at Dubai and 2021 was held at Manama, Bahrain. India won 12 Gold, 15 Silver and 14 Bronze Medals – Total 41 in the recently concluded event at Bahrain.

India first participated in 2017 at Dubai. 41 athlete represented India in that games. India won 17 Gold, 14 Silver and 13 Bronze Medal – Total 44 in 2017 and finished Sixth.

As per the International Paralympic Committee, the fourth edition, 2021, was the biggest para sports event ever. 30 nations participated in the event. About 750 athletes under 20 years (U12-20) and Wheelchair basketball in U23 participated. There were nine sports categories, including athletics, boccia, goalball, powerlifting, swimming, badminton, table tennis, taekwondo and wheelchair basketball.

Ananya Bansal clinched India's first medal in shotput. Ananya bagged a silver medal in the U20 (F20) category. Indian Para Badminton Team finished with 15 Medals.

Indian para-athlete Meet Hareshkumar Tadhani clinched two gold medals at the ongoing 2021 Asian Youth Para Games. Tadhani won gold in the 100m men's T13 category event on December 4 and bagged another in the men's 200m T13 category.

Ishan Khandelwal bagged a gold medal in the 1500m race in the men's T20 category.

Darsh Soni also seemed unstoppable as he went on to win two medals at the event. Soni bagged a bronze medal at the men's 100m T46/47 category event a few days ago. He also won a silver medal in the men's long Jump T44/46/47 division event.

Vikas Bhatiwal also bagged two medals in Bahrain. Bhatiwal won a silver medal in the men's shotput F46 division event at the ongoing Para Games. He also clinched a gold medal in the men's discus throw F46 category event.

Paralympian Praveen Kumar attained first and second place finish in the men's high jump T44 category and long jump-T44 category respectively.

Meanwhile, Indian Paralympian Kashish Lakra bagged a gold medal at the 2021 Asian Youth Para Games in Bahrain. She claimed the best prize on offer at the women's club throw event on Friday (December 3).
